The Bible

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1)

Christ is God’s word made flesh, and that word is made flesh now in the lives of the faithful and in the proclamation of scripture.

The Bible

  • The Bible calls us to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love our neighbour as ourselves. This double commandment of love is the most important of the commandments and it is contained in both the Old and New Testaments.
  • The Bible is the sacred book of all Christians, because God’s will is revealed through it. The Bible is the standard by which all the Church’s teachings are measured.
  • The Bible is a record of what people have seen, heard and believed; thus it combines both divine and human perspectives.
  • The Bible is the Church’s book, and it is always read in worship. The Bible describes Baptism and Eucharist, the sacraments instituted by Christ.
