The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland supports the principle of the welfare state. The safeguarding of citizens’ welfare accords with the Lutheran understanding of the role of authority.

The diaconal work of parishes is based on the principle of love for one’s neighbour. Those in need of help can discuss their situation in confidence with diaconal workers and participate in various support groups. Parishes also offer concrete assistance in the form of food, for example.

Finn Church Aid specialises in international diaconal work and carries out aid work in the world’s poorest countries. It also works together with the Finnish state and other parties committed to the principles of humanitarian development and aid.

The Church is also committed to principles of responsible investment.
