Migration

Christians are called to welcome the stranger. Churches thus have a special role in highlighting injustice, advocating on behalf of migrants, addressing the social and political challenges posed by migration, promoting the benefits of diversity, and encouraging hospitality.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland applies the following principles in regard to migration:

  • Diversity and interaction enrich the expression of faith and the life of communities. Welcoming the stranger is essential to the Christian faith.
  • Parish worship and life should be inclusive, reflecting the diversity of the communities they serve.
  • Parishes are called to oppose racism and discrimination.
  • Parishes and their officials are called to advocacy on behalf of migrants and refugees.
