The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland comprises nine dioceses, each led by a bishop. The Archdiocese of Turku is exceptional in that it has two bishops: the Archbishop, who leads the Church and the parishes in the deaneries of Turku and Naantali, and the bishop, who leads all the other parishes in the diocese. Each diocese is divided into parishes, of which there are currently 378. Parishes operate as independent units and can form parish unions in larger urban areas. For more information about how the Church is governed at both the national and local level, please explore the links in the left-hand menu.
