The Church Pension Fund is an independent legal entity governed by public law, the operation of which is regulated by the Act on the Evangelical Lutheran Church Pension Fund (656/2023).
The Board of the Church Pension Fund is the Church Council. The activities of the Pension Fund are led by the Board of The Church Pension Fund and Director, appointed by the Church Council. The Pension Scheme Funding Work Group and the Responsible Investment Work Group also operate under the Board of The Church Pension Fund. The practical operation of the Pension Fund is managed by the Investment Unit.
The Investment Unit consists of the Chief Investment Officer, the Head of Responsible Investment and Portfolio Manager, the Equity Portfolio Manager, the Fixed-Income Portfolio Manager and the Real Estate Investment Manager.
The Pension Fund is registered in the Business Information System, and its business ID is 2721508-7.
Act on the Evangelical Lutheran Church Pension Fund
The Church Pension Fund’s assets are invested by the Church Council and the Board of The Church Pension Fund, appointed by the Church Council for its term of office. The Church Pension Fund Board was elected at the plenary session of the Church Council, on 21 August 2024. The Board’s term of office ends on 31 May 2028.
Hanna Hiidenpalo was elected Chair of the Board. Other members of the Board are Executive Director Jussi Junni, Administrative Director Juha Silander, Executive Director Paula Aaltonen, Legal Director Keijo Karhumaa, Chief Investment Officer Ari Huotari, Chief Investment Officer Laura Wickström, Managing Director Kari Aakula, Director of Administration and Finance Anu Imppola, as well as Investment Manager Michaela Motzkin-Niemi as a permanent expert member.
The Vice Chair of the Board is Executive Director Jussi Junni, and the Secretary is Chief Investment Officer Ira van der Pals.
The tasks of the Board are specified in Section 6 of the Act on the Church Pension Fund.

The Board of the Church Pension Fund has appointed two work groups to advise the Board on key issues.
Pension Scheme Funding Work Group
The duty of the work group is to monitor the adequacy of the Church Pension Fund and to prepare an annual proposal to the Board on the amount of the employer’s pension contribution and pension fund contribution to be collected the following year. The work group members are Juha Tuohimäki (Chair), Hanna Hiidenpalo, Ira van der Pals, Juha Silander, Ismo Heinström, Roman Goebel and Juhana Hannuksela.
Responsible Investment Work Group
The duty of the work group is to support the development of responsible investment by the Church Pension Fund. The work group members are Juha Tuohimäki (Chair), Hanna Hiidenpalo, Ira van der Pals, Ilkka Sipiläinen, Markus Lindqvist, Emilia Vähämaa, Karoliina Lindroos, Jari Pussinen, Tuija Helenelund and Eeva Toivonen.
