Parish offices

Your local parish office (“kirkkoherranvirasto” in Finnish and “pastorskansli” or “kyrkoherdeämbete” in Swedish) can assist with the following:

  • Joining the church
  • Official certificates
  • Examination of potential impediments to a marriage
  • Family research/genealogy
  • Information about church activities

Parish office hours and the hours of diaconal workers vary from parish to parish. Please consult your local parish (page in Finnish).

Please note that parishes are typically called after the municipality in which they are located. In urban areas, parishes are often named after the district.

Many parishes have deacons who specialise in people who are new to Finland. Consultations with diaconal workers are confidential and free of charge; please contact your local parish for more information.
