Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland is the church of approximately four million people, who are members of the parish of their home town. The General Synod made the final decisions of its four-year term
The General Synod made the final decisions of its four-year term at its November conference. The new General Synod’s term will begin in February 2020.
Bo-Göran Åstrand was elected the next Bishop of Porvoo
Bo-Göran Åstrand was elected the next Bishop of Porvoo with 309 votes. The second candidate, Sixten Ekstrand, received 265 votes.
Church Council approves Church climate strategy
The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. The Church Council approved the Church’s energy and climate strategy in its meeting on 26 February 2019.
Kaisamari Hintikka elected to serve as next Bishop of Espoo
The Assistant General Secretary of the Lutheran World Federation, the Revd Dr Kaisamari Hintikka received 57.5 percent of the votes cast in the second round of the Espoo episcopal election and has been elected to serve as the next Bishop of the Diocese of Espoo.
