The service begins with a wedding march or hymn, and the couple move to the front of the altar and kneel before it. Before God and the congregation they express their will to love one another and exchange rings as a sign of their union. After the proclamation of the marriage, the congregation prays for the couple and their families. Finally, the congregation stands as the couple process out of the church, followed by their parents, grandparents and siblings.
