Counseling

Pastor and man having a chatThe parish provides help, whether you are in economic distress, need a shoulder or simply someone to talk to.

Pastors and deaconal workers are pledged not to tell anyone what they hear in connection with private discussions. The discussions are free of charge.

Deaconal workers can help you for eg. with:

  • discussion
  • economic guidance and material help
  • help in interacting with authorities and filling in forms
  • family issues and relationships
  • mental support
  • alcohol and drug problems

Pastors offer:

  • discussion
  • spiritual support for questions, such as those about church, life, faith, etc.
  • mental support
  • family issues and relationships
  • you can also make a confession to a pastor

For more information, please contact a deaconal worker ("diakoniatyöntekijä" in Finnish) or a pastor ("pappi" in Finnish) in your local parish.

Family counseling centers help families

In most parishes you will find a pastor or deaconal worker who speaks English. If you want to discuss family issues, you may also want to turn to a Family Counseling Center or Helsinki Deaconess Institute. Many parishes maintain a Family Counseling Center or can tell you where to find the nearest one.

Connected with travelling and living abroad there are plenty of things that one would like to share with somebody. Loneliness and other crises and changes in one's life can be exhausting.  You can talk about these and other issues to a priest on the web. Some of these Finnish priests speak English, Swedish or German. Please see link below.
